Carstensz Pyramid

Carstensz Pyramid Overview

COUNTRY: Indonesia
MAX. ALTITUDE: 4884m
CATEGORY: Mountaineering
DIFFICULTY:
P3
T6

Climb Carstensz Pyramid this mountain rises out of the jungle of West Papua in Indonesia. Its utter remoteness, coupled with the political instability in the region and ongoing tribal warfare make getting to the start of the climb something of a mission. However, once you get to West Papua the climb will be like nothing you have ever experienced before.

On this expedition we will experience pristine tropical forests taking us past gigantic ferns and towering walls. Within the dense, rich equatorial rain forest the trek will be a constant navigation of small tracks contouring steep gorges, crossing bamboo bridges over clear rivers, passing pure turquoise lakes as we explore deeper and deeper into the heart of the mountain range. Expect to pass through the Moni tribal areas throwing us into a world of wonder. We will experience more than we can imagine and this is only the start.

The climb to the top will be punchy and technical. It’s simply going to be epic featuring a scramble and climb on fixed lines with 3 notches to be abseiled into and jumarred out of before the final Tyrolean traverse pulling ourselves upside down across a 50’ gap to the summit.
