MAX. ALTITUDE: 4167m
Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in the Atlas Range and North Africa. It might be just on our doorstep but provides us with the chance to experience an ascent of a mountain more than 4,000m high offering a striking alternative to European Alpine trekking and allowing us to get a taste of this fascinating country.
We start our journey in Marrakech, Morocco’s fascinating and other-worldly capital before transferring to the foothills of the Atlas to begin our climb passing through villages where the houses seem to have been scraped up from the desert floor, along meandering mule paths, and marvelling as the high mountain scenery begins to open up around us.
We acclimatise on Toubkal’s neighbour, Ouanoukrim Peak and then winding our way through rocky paths bounded by steep scree slopes we reach the summit of Toubkal where the whole of the Atlas range opens up before us. The silence is remarkable, the High Atlas is unforgettable.
3 Great reasons to climb Jebel Toubkal with 360 Expeditions.
1.Our Jebel Toubkal climb is not solely focused on getting to the top of this impressive mountain. Included in this itinerary is an ascent of the rarely climbed Ras Ouanakrim (4088 meters) this allows you not only to experience the Atlas mountains in further depth but to help get acclimatised for Jebel Toubkal itself.
2.We include a “homestay” at a traditional Riad set in the wonderful chaos of Marrakesh. This allows you to experience the city in the most authentic way and adds an entirely different dimension to the Toubkal experience.
3.Your guiding team will consist not only of an experienced 360 mountain professional but an Atlas Berber guide and his local support team with whom we have worked for many years. Together they’ll provide a mountaineering experience that is not only safe but incredibly informative and most of all a lot of fun.
