Take a step back into history and retrace Mallory's route up the Rongbuk
glacier to what must surely be the world's highest Base camp... Discovered
by chance, the East Rongbuk glacier presents what the early pioneers
termed the 'magic highway' as it formed a key to the 1930's expeditions to
gain access to Mount Everest's formidable Northern defences... The mystery
whether Mallory summited the worlds highest peak prevails but the landscape
he travelled through and which became his obsession beckons to be
rediscovered.

Take a hike up this most impressive of all landscapes and step back into time
as this expedition retraces Mallory's route to Advanced Base Camp
(old camp 3. 6400m).

Beginning at the site of today's Everest Northern Base Camp, which is
perpetually shadowed by the huge looming bulk of Everest's north face, we retrace the historic journey up the East Rongbuk glacier. Fully supported by yak and their Tibetan drivers this journey winds its way past huge glacial Ice fins, old abandoned base camps and  beneath some of the worlds least known 7000m peaks to finally arrive at Everest Advanced Base Camp(6400m)!

Along the route one will have a fascinating insight into the culture of the Tibetan people, and a glimpse of how the history has shaped this country. You will see the contrast between the capital city, Lhasa, and the outlying villages scattering the vast Tibetan flood plains.

Other highlights include seeing the highest monastery in the world, the Rongbuk Monastery, situated at over 5000 metres. During the return journey you will cross over the Friendship Bridge, which is a significant landmark marking the border between Nepal and Tibet. The route back will take you along the Friendship Highway, travelling through some breathtaking scenery.
