Berghaus began life back in 1966 when Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison from the North East of England, frustrated by what they saw as a lack of decent outdoor gear, decided to import and sell their own. Their specialist outdoor store in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, went by the name of the LD Mountain Centre and quickly gained a reputation for selling the very best in high-performance outdoor products. So successful was the LD Mountain Centre that Lockey and Davison soon began to design, test and make their own gear for sale in the shop. This high-quality, innovative clothing range, inspired by what climbers actually wanted and needed, was called Berghaus. And so began the Berghaus brand.
Over the years Berghaus have never ceased to pioneer new product development, reinventing the rucsack in the 1970’s, the first to introduce breathable Gore-tex into its products, led the way with the concept of layering systems in the 90’s, and constantly introducing new technology to its wide range of clothing and rucsacks over the years including including its Extrem range working in close partnership with a team of over 20 athletes including Chirs Bennington, Leo Houlding, Mick Fowler and our own illustrious Rolfe Oostra. Berghaus has become synonymous with innovation, always seeking to develop clothing to work in the most extreme environments this planet can throw at them.
And it’s this constant desire to be the leaders in their field and innovators that has seen both Rolfe and 360 working in close partnership with Berghaus for four years now, each one recognising the other’s shared values, excellence and quality.
