Robert (Topsy) Turner

Following a full career in the Royal Marines, specialising for most of it as a Mountain Leader, and working in close protection, Robert (Topsy) focused his energies as a Mountain Leader racking up many years of experience in mountain ranges all over the world.

If not roaming the hillside, you may spot him riding the Tour de France cols of the Pyrenees or cross country skiing through Norway. A man that makes every day count.

In 2016, Robert fulfilled his dream and moved to the mountains of the French Pyrenees, where has a Chambre d’ote and is never more happy than hiking or back country skiing in his home valley of d’Oueil with his beloved ‘Coco’ for company.

Totally exceeded expectations. It’s easy to just concentrate on the summit attempt, but the entire trek was just spectacular. I had no idea how stunning the scenery would be throughout – each day was amazing. It was a hugely rewarding experience. The fact the trek to base camp was such an amazing experience in itself almost took the pressure off getting to the summit – that was just an added bonus! The culture, scenery, food, guides and local team made it so special.

The fact that the scenery was ever-changing and just seemed to get better round every corner. The sunrise on summit day, seeing K2 in the distance and being able to spend about an hour on the summit because the weather conditions were amazing.
