David Davies

Expedition Leader

Dave has worked for over 20 years as a GP in the beautiful Welsh county of Pembrokeshire, famed for its 180 miles of stunning coastal national park. An outdoors enthusiast for many years, Dave is lucky enough to take almost 3 months off work every year which has allowed for lots of independent adventure travel over the years.

Trekking the Inca trail in 2004 was the start of working as a doctor supporting charity treks and bike rides all over the world and this has taken him from the top of Kilimanjaro to cycling through the Mekong Delta, from trekking through the snow of Iceland to the heat of the Sahara and from cycling through central Paris to mountain biking across the wilderness of the Khangai mountains in Mongolia.

When not working or travelling Dave spends his time pursuing an ongoing interest in street photography. Dave’s ethos is to challenge yourself and push your boundaries, but see the world and have some fun whilst you’re doing it.

Interview

What was your first adventure?

Inca trail in 2004.  This was the first of many treks and independent travel in Peru, my favourite country in Latin America.

What has been your most memorable adventure?

Jungle trekking in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) – the wettest, muddiest adventure ever but with amazing wildlife and super friendly indigenous people.

What item of travel kit you can't do without?

My thermos mug – it takes at least three coffees to get me going in the mornings!

What three bits of advice would you give to people who are keen on adventures, trekking and climbing?

  1. Challenge yourself.
  2. Never accept it’s impossible.
  3. When you succeed set your next goal.

What is the best thing about your job?

I’m unusual in that I still work as a full time GP but am fortunate to be in a position to take a good amount of time off to indulge my love of adventure travel.

Why did you choose to work for 360?

Rolfe and I have been great friends for some time now and we had previously worked together on other expeditions way before I before I joined 360.

So when Rolfe offered me a position with his company 360 I jumped at the chance and accepted it with no hesitation.

The leadership and organisation of this trip was very good, done professionally at the same time very enjoyable. From the office: Helen and Marni always were on the end of the phone for any questions I had.  Whilst on the mountain: Leader Steven’s advise and knowledge was brilliant and the porters were simply amazing. For these reasons I would recommend 360!
